According to the Direct Selling Association, direct sales is the sale of a consumer product or service, person-to-person, away from a fixed retail location. These products and services are marketed to customers by independent salespeople. Depending on the company, the salespeople may be called distributors, representatives, consultants or various other titles. Products are sold primarily through in-home product demonstrations, parties and one-on-one selling.
So here we are looking at companies such as, but not limited to Avon, Herbalife, Mary Kay, Melaleuca, Arbonne International, Home Sex Parties and the like!
I bet you are wondering to yourself how is this possible? Easy in order to cut costs many employees find themselves suddenly and unceremoniously out of traditional jobs. Finding themselves in need of alternative source of income the company’s door-to-door sales force swells in number.
What is the appeal of direct selling in a tough market?
Direct Sales reps enjoy high gross margins, low capital intensity and lots of free cash flow. Looks like the time to cash in is now!
