Hello friends!
It is an honour for me to be alive on this historic day. I would love to have a glimpse of the other side of heaven to see what Dr.King is doing. That he gave up his life for a cause he believed in and to see this come full circle. I know many didn’t not expect this in their life time!
I have a dream that one day our children will not be judged by the color or their skin but by the content of their character! Pastor, Dr. Martin Luther King
Have we overcome? Is this the someday my people around the world have been singing about? Someday or not! The winds of change have blown! I feel it in my bones. I felt a year ago to the date as I listened to his words, tears in my eyes as I thought of all the experiences I have had for good or for bad.
I’d love to tell you that the chains of discrimination have been removed, but since I live daily the experience I know too well the reality of what is.
On a consultation call, the client asked me, why is it that you do what you do! My words were not so eloquent as these expressed by Dr. Martin Luther King :
“[Approx. 140] years later the ‘negro’ [still] lives in a lonely island of poverty. In the midst of a vast ocan of material prosperity…The ‘negro’ still languishes in the corners of American society!”
Bottom line, I know that I am a beacon to all who look like me who think and feel that they cannot be successful. I am living proof, “YES WE CAN! YES WE DID!” There lies too much opportunity, too much that can be done and I for one am determined to be an example too of the “Audacity Of Hope!”
Indeed “Free At Last, Free At Last, Thank God Almighty” I am Free At Last to choose the life I want to live!
I am Patricia Kagwiria Makhulo, I am black and I am proud!
