epidemic |ˌepiˈdemik|
noun
a widespread occurrence of an infectious disease in a community at a particular time : a flu epidemic.
• a disease occurring in such a way.• a sudden, widespread occurrence of a particular undesirable phenomenon : an epidemic of violent crime.adjective
of, relating to, or of the nature of an epidemic : shoplifting has reached epidemic proportions. Compare with endemic , pandemic , epizootic .
No doubt as you read that definition, you were inclined to say thanks but no thanks! But you do want an epidemic in favor of your business, especially if you are looking to boost home party sales.
For an epidemic to occur certain conditions must be present. In science we call this optimal conditions. These conditions are
- Point of entry e.g, open wounds
- Genetic Susceptibility (likelihood of getting sick),
- Exposure
The same applies for your direct sales business. There are three optimal conditions that will determine how successful you are at getting your idea to spread, what Seth Godin describes as the Idea Virus.
Today we will start with The Law Of The Few
The Law Of The Few States:
There are exceptional people out there with natural abilities and capabilities of starting epidemics. All you have to do is find them!
The question on your mind then ought to be “What kinds of persons are critical in spreading information?”
I have spoken about this in Digging For Gold: Home Party Consultants Pull Out Your List Of 100.
We all know the story of Paul Revere, whose “midnight ride” is now a well known symbol of the emancipation of the colonies from Britain. Paul Revere was not the man who saw the Queen’s legion preparing. It was simple lad. Neither was Mr. Revere the only man to ride that night. Do you know the name of the other man who rode that night?
This simple lad though had the wisdom to know that if he wanted the news to spread, he had to go to the right person. To know who the right person is, you have to know who they are and what they are able to do!
Paul Revere was what we call a connector, a maven and a salesman.
Remember how I said there are certain persons critical to spreading a message, well those are the 3 kinds of folks.
Connectors:
connector |kəˈnektər|
noun [often with adj. ]
a thing and/or person that links two or more things together : a pipe connector.
Know a lot of people. Think about your friends, no doubt to can link each friend to this one person. Connectors are influential and they just know how to bring people together, the right kinds of people.
They are called masters of the ‘weak-tie.’ The thing about being a connector is not to be best friends with everyone, it is just they know folks!
They give us access to opportunities, circles and worlds that we would not normally be privy to in so doing they form a social glue. Now how is that for giving new meaning to ties that bind?
Action Steps:
1. Pull out your list of 100 or make a list
2. Link your friends to one person
3. You now have your connectors.
4. Now you can approach them and have them connect you with like minded persons!
See building a successful home party business is just that easy.
Get connected,
